Ademola Lookman says his New Year’s resolution for 2026 is to bring the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) gold back to Nigeria.
Lookman spoke to journalists at a Super Eagles training
session ahead of their second-round match at the ongoing AFCON in Morocco.
When asked what his goals and aspirations for the new year
are, the 28-year-old said he hopes “to
bring gold back home”.
The Atalanta winger also added that the Eagles are not
looking to avoid any team in the competition.
He said “if you want to win a tournament, you have to play
the best”
The Eagles will face Mozambique in the round of 16 on
January 5 at Fez Stadium at 8 pm Nigerian time.
Nigeria finished top of Group C after winning all three
matches and earned nine maximum points.
Mozambique qualified from Group F as one of the four best
third-placed teams in the preliminary stage.
The last AFCON meeting between Nigeria and Mozambique was at
the 2010 tournament in Angola. The Eagles defeated the Mambas 3-0, with Peter
Odemwingie scoring a brace and Obafemi Martins wrapping up the overwhelming
victory.
The winner of the match will face either Algeria or the
Democratic Republic of Congo in the quarter-final.
