The immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has called for calm after the court slammed him and members of his family involved in alleged corruption a N1.5b bail condition.
Recall that the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday
granted bail totalling N1.5 billion to Malami, his son, Abdulaziz, and his
wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe.
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, trial judge Justice
Emeka Nwite approved bail in the sum of N1 billion for Malami and his son,
while Malami’s wife, who is also a defendant in the matter, was granted bail of
N500 million.
Reacting, Malami in a statement on his verified Facebook
page, urged the general public to remain calm.
The former minister said he remains “fully committed to the
rule of law,” stressing that he has consistently demonstrated respect for “due
process and the authority of the courts”.
Malami said he “will continue to comply strictly with all
lawful directives and conditions as determined by the court.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and patient,
as more comprehensive details regarding this development will be communicated
shortly.
