Magnus Abe, a former senator, has thanked President Bola Tinubu and Nyesom Wike after his appointment as chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
On Monday, Tinubu asked the Senate to confirm Abe and 20
others as nominees for the boards of the NUPRC and the Nigerian Midstream and
Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
In a statement on Tuesday, Abe said his support for Tinubu
has always been based on conviction rather than expectation of reward.
“My love and support for President Tinubu was not just based
on my expectations of reward, but on my conviction that the president will do
things differently from every other leader, and Nigeria will be better, and the
numbers will show that Nigeria is better,” he said.
Abe said recent developments show that the administration’s
policies are beginning to yield results.
“Today the president is doing things differently, and the
numbers are beginning to show that Nigeria is on the right course,” he said.
He described his appointment as an opportunity to contribute
to national transformation in a critical sector.
“With my appointment as chairman of the NUPRC, the president
has not only given me a great and unique opportunity to contribute to the
transformation of our country in a key sector, but has demonstrated once again
the qualities that make him a master of the game,” Abe said.
The former senator said Tinubu’s leadership has brought
trust across party lines.
“Nigeria is not becoming a one-party state; rather, in
Tinubu, Nigerians have simply found a leader that all Nigerians can trust,” he
said.
Abe pledged continued loyalty to the president.
“Thank you, Mr President, a father that rewards genuine
loyalty and promotes competence; I will never stop following Tinubu,” he said.
He also thanked Wike, minister of the Federal Capital
Territory (FCT), for his support during the 2023 elections.
Abe described Wike as instrumental in delivering Rivers
state to Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“No one can claim to love Mr President and be ungrateful to our ‘Mr Project’; his support at a critical point meant a lot to our success and continues to be pivotal to the success of the Tinubu political family in Rivers state,” he said.
He said Wike’s efforts helped forge a “renewed hope family”
in Rivers state.
Abe also expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to
serve.
“Finally, to Almighty God who makes all things possible,
whose mercy alone endures forever, to you, eternal father be all glory, praise, and adoration forever and ever,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to support the administration’s reform
agenda.
“To all my friends and well-wishers across the land, just
praise God, ignore the naysayers, pay your tax, and support the reform agenda;
better days are coming for our country,” Abe said.
