Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has pledged comprehensive support to the bereaved father whose wife and six children were brutally murdered in Chiranci Dorayi area, including sponsorship for Hajj and Umrah, a new house, and full welfare assistance.
The announcement came during the governor's condolence visit to the grieving family, as detailed in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Wednesday.
The tragic incident, which occurred on January 17, 2026, involved the killing of 35-year-old Fatima Abubakar and her children, Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and one-year-old Abdussalam, in what authorities describe as a violent home invasion.
The father, Haruna Bashir, survived the attack.Governor Yusuf expressed profound sympathy for the loss and assured the family of ongoing state government backing.
He directed the provision of a new, befitting house to help rehabilitate the bereaved father and restore his social life.
The governor further committed the state to full responsibility for the man's welfare, including support for remarriage if he finds a suitable partner, and all necessary aid to enable him to rebuild his life.
On the justice front, Governor Yusuf instructed the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to expedite prosecution of the suspects already arrested by security agencies.
He vowed to sign death warrants for any convicts found guilty in the Chiranci Dorayi killings, as well as in related high-profile cases such as the murder of Hanifa and the Gezawa arson attacks where multiple people were set ablaze.
The governor commended the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and other security outfits for their collaboration and rapid response leading to arrests, including reports of three suspects detained, one reportedly the victim's nephew.
In a gesture of appreciation, the bereaved father donated his personal house to the Kano State Government for conversion into an Islamiyya school to benefit the community.
Governor Yusuf concluded by praying for Allah to grant eternal rest to the deceased, patience to the family, and enduring peace to the people of Kano State.
In separate condolence visits, the governor paid respects to the family of the late Dr. Bature AbdulAziz, President of the National Patriotic Elders Forum for Peace and Unity, describing him as a dedicated patriot and peace advocate whose legacy in unity and national development would endure.
He prayed for Allah's forgiveness and Aljannatul Firdaus for the deceased.
The governor also visited Baba Umar, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Private and Voluntary Schools Board, to commiserate over the recent passing of his mother.
