In a proactive move to enhance community safety and maintain lasting peace, the Jaba Local Government Area in Kaduna State has recruited and inaugurated 166 members into a Joint Task Force (JTF).
The initiative, spearheaded by the council chairperson, Larai Sylvia Ishaku, draws personnel from all 10 wards of the local government. The new task force is tasked with strengthening intelligence gathering, protecting lives and property, combating the spread of illicit drugs by targeting dealers, barons, and users, and fostering closer collaboration with conventional security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders for improved grassroots surveillance and coordination.
Although Jaba enjoys relative calm compared to other parts of Southern Kaduna, the recruitment addresses growing security concerns in neighboring communities and across the nation, aiming to prevent potential threats from taking root.
The official inauguration ceremony was conducted by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa Gwabin (retd.), who was represented by his Senior Special Adviser, Mr. Musa Likita. He praised the effort, stating: “What the chairman has done, with the full support of the people of Jaba Local Government Area, is truly remarkable and deserves commendation.”
Chairperson Larai Sylvia Ishaku emphasized the collective responsibility for security, declaring: “Peace must never be taken for granted. Security is not the duty of a few; it is the responsibility of all of us. Only by standing together can we protect lives, preserve property, and create the safe environment needed for growth and development.”
She further described the recruits as a symbol of hope, adding: “Today, you stand not only as a security outfit but as a beacon of hope for the people of Jaba, neighbouring communities, and surrounding local governments.”
Training for the new JTF members commenced over a week ago, with expectations of discipline, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.
The program has received strong backing from community stakeholders, including the Wakilin Jaba, Elisha Musa, who represented the Paramount Chief of the Ham people and hailed it as a pioneering step toward enduring peace in Hamland.
This community-driven security measure reflects the Jaba Local Government’s broader commitment to consolidating peace and building robust, locally rooted security frameworks in the region.
