Speaking on Thursday in Ekoli Edda, Edda LGA of Ebonyi,
during a New Year visit to Stanley Emegha, chairman of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) in the state, Kalu urged governors to take responsibility for
securing their states.
He said insecurity can only be addressed when state
governors take ownership of security in their domains.
Kalu singled out Francis Nwifuru, governor of Ebonyi, as an
example, noting that he has done well in protecting lives and properties in the
state.
Kalu also said Abia was the safest state in Nigeria during
his tenure as governor.
“Abia was the most secure area when I was the governor of
Abia state; it was the most secure state in Nigeria,” he said.
“And when I was governor, all the states collapsed,
including Warri and Port Harcourt; they collapsed. Only Aba was safe, because
nobody was kidnapped in Abia state.
“People are saying President Tinubu should do this and do
that to end insecurity — no.
“When I was governor, I took charge of Abia, and nobody
could move anywhere without securing the lives and property of our people.”
The senator said governors should emulate the approach being
adopted in Ebonyi state.
“So, the governors should come back and secure their states
the way it is happening in Ebonyi state,” he said.
“Every governor should secure his state, and Nigeria will be
safe.”
The APC chieftain also vowed to deliver Abia state to the
ruling party in the 2027 general election.
Kalu said he would work for the re-election of Tinubu and
the emergence of an APC governor in Abia.
“Alex Otti is my friend, but I will only vote for my party,
APC, and work for its victory,” Kalu added.
“Abia will be APC in 2027, and I will lay my heart on the
field and work for the APC.”
