Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has relieved his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, of his duties and appointed Mustapha Bakwana as his successor.
The governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced the change, which takes immediate effect.
Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, a staunch ally of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya movement, had reportedly resigned earlier.
The move follows Governor Yusuf's defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), amid rising political tensions and realignments in Kano State.
Mustapha Bakwana, the new appointee, previously served as political adviser under former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The decision comes against the backdrop of strained relations between Governor Yusuf and Senator Kwankwaso, including disputes over alleged coercion of officials during the defection process and questions of loyalty ahead of future elections.
The governor's office has not provided detailed reasons for the change, but it signals ongoing efforts to restructure his advisory team in the shifting political landscape.
