Bunmi Akinnaanu, the Nigerian gospel artiste popularly known for her hit song ‘Omije Ojumi’, has passed away.
Bunmi’s demise was announced on Tuesday via a terse
statement shared on Instagram by her colleague Ayo Melody on behalf of her
family.
The post, which was accompanied by a picture of the late
singer and a video of her remains, revealed that she died in a Lagos hospital.
“With great sadness 💔😭 we announce
the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed
away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria,” it reads.
“May God grant her eternal rest 🙏.”
Bunmi’s death comes a few months after she had appealed for prayers and divine healing while
battling a serious leg ailment.
The incident unfolded in October 2025 during a service at
G.F David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
A video captured the ‘Omije Ojumi’ hitmaker seated with her leg stretched out on a chair, receiving prayer from a pastor.
An intravenous (IV) cannula was visible attached to her
hand, underscoring the severity of her condition.
Addressing the congregation, the cleric revealed that the
singer had been suffering from persistent bleeding in her leg, which he
identified as a spiritual attack, calling it an “arrow”.
He prayed against what he termed the “spirit of death,”
commanding it to leave her body.
Akinnaanu, who began singing at the age of 10, left a career
in banking to pursue music full-time.
She rose to prominence with her hit song ‘Omije Ojumi’ — a
song that captured the hearts of many Nigerian Christians and became a staple
in churches and homes across the country.
She built on that success with a series of uplifting
releases over the years, including ‘O Ti Sure’.
Tributes have begun to pour in for the deceased singer
following news of her death.
