The management of the Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State, has dismissed as false a social media post alleging that the institution was attacked by bandits.
The clarification was contained in a press release signed on Saturday by the Chief Information Officer of the university, Janet Ezekiel.
The university described the report as “entirely fake” and a deliberate attempt to create panic among students and disrupt ongoing first-semester examinations.
“The attention of the Management of the Federal University of Kashere has been drawn to a fake social media post in circulation claiming that there was an attack on the university by bandits. Management categorically states that there was no such incident in FUK, and the information circulating is false and should be disregarded,” the statement partly read.
According to the university, the incident referenced in the viral post was not connected to the institution but was a local conflict between youths from Jauro Buba and Garin Rigiya villages.
“The said incident was actually a local conflict between youths of Jauro Buba and Garin Rigiya villages, and not an attack on the university,” the management clarified, adding that security agencies have since restored calm. “The Police have put the situation under control.”
The university reassured parents, guardians, students, and the general public that the campus remains safe.
“There is no need for panic. Management strongly advises the public to rely only on verified university channels of communication for accurate and authentic information,” the statement added.
