George Moghalu, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2025 Anambra governorship election, has resigned from the party.
The former managing director of the National Inland
Waterways Authority (NIWA) announced the decision in a letter dated January 26,
2026.
Moghalu addressed the letter to the LP chairman in his ward,
Uruagu, in Nnewi, Anambra state.
He thanked the party at the ward, state, and national levels
for giving him the platform to contest the November 2025 off-cycle governorship
election.
He said his resignation takes immediate effect.
“I bring you the good wishes of my family and write to
formally inform you of my resignation from the Labour Party, effective January
26, 2026,” the letter reads.
“Let me also thank the party, through you, for providing me
the opportunity to use the Labour Party platform to contest the last
governorship election of our state.
“Please accept, as always, the assurance of my sincere
regards and kindly convey same to the members.”
He did not disclose the new political platform he would be
pitching tent with.
The resignation followed Moghalu’s rejection of the outcome
of the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election.
