The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been drawn alongside Zambia, Egypt and Malawi in the group stage of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026.
The draw was conducted at the Mohammed VI Football Complex
in Rabat, Morocco, the host nation, on Thursday.
The Super Falcons will begin their WAFCON title defence in
Group C and face Zambia, a team Nigeria thrashed 5-0 enroute to triumph in
Morocco last year.
The Zambians, however, defeated the Falcons in the
third-place match to win bronze at WAFCON 2022.
Egypt will be appearing in their third WAFCON, and first
since 2016, while Malawi will be participating for the first time in their
history as debutants.
In other groups, hosts Morocco, finalists in the last two
tournaments, will face arch-rivals Algeria in Group A, with Senegal and Kenya
completing the group.
Cameroon and Ghana are together in Group D, with Mali and
Cape Verde completing the group of death. South Africa, the 2022 WAFCON
winners, are in Group B alongside the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Tanzania.
Morocco is hosting its third consecutive WAFCON tournament,
and the 2026 edition will take place between March 17 and April 3.
