The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has reported a fire outbreak at a 15 MVA TR3 power transformer located at the IBB Way Injection Substation in Katsina, resulting in widespread electricity disruption across several areas of the state capital.
In a statement released on Monday and signed by Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala Sani, KEDCO confirmed that the incident took place late on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.KEDCO's technical team is actively on site, working to determine the root cause, evaluate the damage to the equipment, and initiate restoration efforts to resume power supply as quickly as possible.
As a precautionary measure, the affected zones have been isolated to safeguard lives and property, the company stated.
The outage has impacted key sections of Katsina metropolis, including Kofar Kaura, Government Reserved Area (GRA), Dandagoro, parts of Kofar Marusa, Janbango, Kano Road, and nearby surroundings.
KEDCO expressed regret for the inconvenience experienced by customers, emphasizing that safety and prompt restoration are its primary concerns.
The distribution company promised to provide additional updates as the investigation advances and repair work continues.
