A massive fire outbreak has ravaged a significant portion of the Wukari Local Government Secretariat in Taraba State, causing extensive damage estimated in billions of naira and severely disrupting local administrative operations.
The incident occurred shortly after the Chairman of Wukari Local Government Area, Hon. Bala Useni, departed the office for an official engagement.
Useni was promptly alerted to the blaze by a security operative from the Taraba State Security Marshal.
Initial attempts to extinguish the flames proved futile when the Federal University Wukari Fire Service could not respond effectively due to a critical lack of water supply.
Firefighters and emergency responders were ultimately able to bring the inferno under control through the concerted efforts of council staff members and other concerned citizens who joined the response.
According to the chairman, the fire devastated most of the administrative buildings within the secretariat complex, leaving only a small section of his own office unscathed. No lives were lost in the incident, with no casualties reported.
The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, and investigations are currently underway to establish the circumstances that led to the outbreak.
In response, Chairman Useni has announced the formation of a dedicated committee tasked with assessing the full extent of the destruction and pinpointing the root cause.
The blaze has brought administrative activities in the local government area to a standstill, significantly hindering service delivery to residents.
Officials are now grappling with the urgent need to restore operations amid the widespread damage.Further updates are expected as investigations progress and recovery efforts begin.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while the situation is addressed.
