A devastating fire outbreak has completely razed the popular Moore Pharmaceutical Store and several adjoining shops in the Michelin area of Jalingo, Taraba State capital.
The blaze erupted in the early hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026, along Hamaruwa Way, rapidly engulfing the single building that housed the affected businesses.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started in the predawn hours and spread quickly, leaving no opportunity to salvage goods.
As of the time of this report, the cause of the fire remains unknown.A staff member from Moore Pharmaceutical Store confirmed the total loss, stating that nothing was recovered from the premises.
"Not even a needle was salvaged," the employee lamented.No lives were lost in the incident, but affected shop owners described the destruction as catastrophic.
Many appealed to the Taraba State Government, philanthropists, and organizations for immediate assistance to restart their businesses.
Several traders revealed they had secured loans to stock their shops ahead of the new year, warning that without swift support, they risk severe financial ruin.
One eyewitness alleged that calls to the state fire service went unanswered, claiming firefighters failed to arrive promptly despite repeated distress alerts.
Local residents expressed grief over the loss, emphasizing that Moore Pharmaceutical Store was a vital source of essential medicines for the Michelin community and surrounding areas.
