FG Vows Massive Renewable Energy Investment Boost in 2026

The Federal Government has pledged to significantly increase investment in renewable energy throughout 2026, building on recent achievements to expand access to clean and reliable electricity across Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 2, 2026, Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, highlighted President Bola Tinubu's strong support for accelerating energy reforms, which he said has attracted substantial investments into the renewable energy sector and positioned Nigeria as Africa's emerging renewable energy hub.

Abdullahi emphasised the government's determination to address persistent power supply challenges by prioritising renewable energy as a viable alternative, particularly for unserved and underserved communities.

“With renewable energy identified and adopted as a key solution, the Federal Government remains committed to tackling these challenges head-on,” he stated.

As the implementing agency for the Renewed Hope Solarization Programme and other energy efficiency initiatives, the ECN is focused on unlocking the full potential of the renewable energy value chain to drive job creation, promote sustainable development, and ensure improved energy access for all Nigerians.

The DG further assured that additional communities have been mapped and prioritised for solar power connections in the coming year.

This renewed push aligns with broader efforts to diversify Nigeria's energy mix, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and meet growing electricity demands sustainably.
