The Nigeria Film Corporation (NFC) has commended filmmaker Funke Akindele after her latest film ‘Behind The Scenes’ achieved a historic milestone by grossing over N2.4 billion at the box office.
The NFC is the apex federal government agency responsible
for regulating, promoting, and developing the Nigerian film industry
(Nollywood).
In a statement released on Monday by Ali Nuhu, the NFC
managing director, the corporation praised the 48-year-old director for
delivering a “record-breaking commercial performance in key international
markets”.
The statement was also shared on Nuhu’s official social
media platforms.
The post detailed the film’s exceptional reach, noting:
‘Behind The Scenes’ has resonated with audiences across Nigeria and has set
unprecedented records commercially.
It added that the film’s success extends to the United
Kingdom and Ireland, where it now ranks as the highest-grossing Nollywood
release to date.
Nuhu highlighted that the accomplishment stems from “a
meticulous creative vision, strategic production and distribution planning, and
the unwavering dedication of a talented cast and experienced crew”.
“Behind The Scenes, has not only resonated with audiences
nationwide but has also recorded record-breaking commercial performance in key
markets, including the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it currently stands as
the top-grossing Nollywood title,” the post reads.
‘This achievement is the result of meticulous creative
vision, strategic production and distribution, and the collective dedication of
a strong ensemble cast alongside an experienced production crew.
“From an industry perspective, ‘Behind The Scenes’ reflects
a significant evolution in Nollywood’s commercial and artistic maturity.
“Milestones such as: fastest film in West Africa to cross
the ₦1 billion mark within weeks of release, the highest single-day gross
recorded on Boxing Day, and now the first to surpass ₦2 billion in Africa,
underscore the growing strength of Nigeria’s cinema market and its capacity to
compete on the global stage.”
In response to the recognition, Akindele expressed her
appreciation, commenting simply: “Thank you so much! I’m honoured.”
The official box office figure was confirmed in a recent announcement by FilmOne Entertainment, the film’s distributor.
‘Behind The Scenes’, which premiered on December 12, has officially grossed N2,407,000,000, solidifying its place as the first Nigerian film to ever cross the N2 billion mark.
