FG Awards ₦50 Million to Best Teacher of the Year, ₦25 million Each to Others


The Federal Government of Nigeria has honored 12 exceptional teachers with national awards, recognizing their outstanding contributions to education. 


The Overall Best Teacher of the Year, Solanke Taiwo from the South-West, received ₦50 million, while 11 other awardees took home ₦25 million each. 


The awards ceremony was part of the Nigeria Teachers’ Summit 2026, held in Abuja, where Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, emphasized the government's commitment to empowering teachers and restoring dignity to the profession.


The awardees were selected through a transparent and merit-based process, with three teachers nominated from each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. 


The government has also launched the EduRevamp Online Teacher Professional Development Portal, designed to enhance teachers' skills and knowledge nationwide ¹.


Some notable awards include :

- Best Teacher: Ubani Roseblund Ibiyiye of Federal Government College, Abuloma, won ₦3.5 million

- Best Public Private School Teacher: Emmanuel Ozor Charles of Greater Tomorrow International College, Ondo, received ₦3.5 million

- Best School Leader: Mrs. Odenike Fausat Mobolaji of Elepe Community Junior High School, Ikorodu, Lagos, took home ₦3.5 million


In addition to the awards, the Federal Government has also launched the EduRevamp Online Teacher Professional Development Portal, designed to enhance teachers' skills and knowledge nationwide. 


This platform aims to provide continuous learning opportunities, improve teaching standards, and support educators across the country.


The government’s commitment to education reform and teacher welfare is evident in these initiatives, which are expected to have a positive impact on the education sector. 


By recognizing and rewarding outstanding teachers, the government hopes to motivate educators to continue delivering high-quality education and inspire others to strive for excellence.


The awards ceremony, which took place at the Nigeria Teachers’ Summit 2026, highlights the importance of teachers in shaping the nation’s future.
