The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, on 40 percent increment and improved allowances, with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
Speaking at the unveiling of the agreement between the
government and ASUU, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said the 40
percent review will be represented by the consolidated academic tools
allowance.
Alausa said the consolidated academic tools allowance covers
journal publication, conference participation, internet access, land society
membership, and book allowance.
He added that the allowance includes the critical tools
required for effective teaching, research, and global academic competitiveness.
According to him, “With regard to the head academic
allowance, these allowances, nine in number, are now clearly structured,
conveniently held and quickly tied to duties performed, thereby promoting
productivity, accountability and fairness.
“The group of allowances also consists of enhanced provision
for postgraduate provision, fieldwork, clinical duty, examination moderation
and leadership role within tertiary education systems.”
