The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have jointly intercepted 347.5 kilogrammes of Canadian Loud, a highly potent cannabis strain concealed inside a Toyota Sienna vehicle at the Apapa Port in Lagos.
The discovery was made during a thorough joint examination of a single import consignment that included four vehicles, according to a statement from the Customs Public Relations Officer at Apapa Port Command, Isah Sulaiman.
The illicit drugs were hidden in 13 bags within one of the vehicles. A precise weighing showed ten bags at 25 kg each, one bag at 29 kg, and two bags at 34.5 kg and 34 kg respectively, totalling 347.5 kg.
Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Apapa Port Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, described the seizure as the fourth major joint drug interception by the NCS and NDLEA at the port in under two months.
He emphasised his administration’s unwavering stance that no cargo whether incoming or outgoing will clear the port without rigorous scrutiny.
“Criminal elements should be aware that any attempt to traffic prohibited goods through Apapa Port will be detected and decisively thwarted,” Oshoba warned.
“We remain vigilant and resolute in our duty to protect our society and national security.”The CAC highlighted the critical role of inter-agency collaboration, stating that intelligence sharing and coordinated enforcement between the NCS and NDLEA have repeatedly disrupted smuggling networks in Nigeria’s maritime domain.
He credited the latest success directly to the strengthened partnership between the two agencies.Oshoba also announced plans to deploy a high-capacity drive-through scanner at the port, capable of scanning up to 200 containers per hour, which will significantly enhance technology-driven detection of contraband.
He noted that both agencies’ Standard Operating Procedures promote zero tolerance for smuggling, professionalism, and seamless cooperation among officers.
In line with established protocols, the 347.5 kg of Canadian Loud has been formally transferred to the NDLEA for further investigation, forensic analysis, and prosecution of any identified suspects.
The interception aligns with the 2026 International Customs Day theme, “Customs Protecting Society Through Vigilance and Commitment.”
Oshoba reaffirmed the Apapa Port Command’s dual mandate: to facilitate legitimate trade while intensifying measures to combat illicit activities and safeguard national interests.
