‘Crisis between Osimhen, Lookman’ has been resolved - NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says the “crisis” that emanated from Victor Osimhen’s outburst on some of his teammates during the match against Mozambique has been resolved.

Dayo Enebi, Super Eagles team administrator, said the issue was settled “a couple of hours later” after the match.

The Super Eagles defeated Mozambique 4-0 in the second round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Monday.

Osimhen scored a brace, and another two goals from Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams sent Nigeria into the quarter-final of the competition.

However, a nasty episode occurred during the impressive performance. In the second half, Osimhen lost his head and berated Lookman, along with a few teammates. Other players were required to calm the situation.

Still boiling, the Galatasaray striker signalled to the bench to be subbed off and was obliged. He was hooked, and Moses Simon was brought in.

After the final whistle, he left straight for the tunnel and refused to participate in the customary handshakes and prayer with his teammates.

He was also the first Nigerian player to head for the team bus.

The incident has stirred reactions on social media, with several Nigerians expressing concern about the group’s harmony.

Enebi said there is “no problem” inside the Super Eagles camp, adding that the on-field incident was “between two brothers” and the team is “presently at training”.

The team administrator also clarified that Akor Adams had permission to visit his mother, who is hospitalised in Fes, Morocco. Enebi added that the player is back in camp after the visit.

The Super Eagles will face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in the quarter-final of the competition on January 10.
