The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday visited Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri in Yenagoa, where he extended condolences over the recent passing of Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo on December 11, 2025.
Accompanied by senior officers, including the Commander of the 6th Division, Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, and the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, Lt. Gen. Shaibu conveyed the Nigerian Army's sympathies.
"On behalf of the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, I extend my deepest sympathies to the Governor, the government, and the people of Bayelsa State. We pray that his gentle soul rests in peace," the COAS stated.
During the courtesy call, Lt. Gen. Shaibu also commended Governor Diri for the state's continued support to the armed forces, particularly the 16 Brigade.
He highlighted the government's provision of housing accommodations, nine units of three-bedroom apartments for senior non-commissioned officers and two blocks of nine units of two-bedroom apartments for junior non-commissioned officers noting that these initiatives would significantly boost troop morale, family welfare, and operational effectiveness.
