Buhari Never Missed Armed Forces Remembrance Day – Bashir Ahmad

Bashir Ahmad, former aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has corrected a claim by Dr. Reuben Abati that Buhari missed the National Armed Forces Remembrance Day in 2010.

In a post shared today, Ahmad pointed out that Buhari was not president in 2010, he served as Military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and as elected president from 2015 to 2023. Thus, linking any 2010 presidential absence to Buhari is factually wrong.

Ahmad emphasized Buhari's perfect attendance record during his presidency (2015–2023), attending every ceremony without fail. This dedication was notable given health issues in some years; on one occasion, doctors advised skipping the event due to the physical demands, such as prolonged standing for wreath-laying and parades. Buhari refused, insisting on personal participation to honor fallen heroes and support the armed forces.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held annually on January 15 at the National Arcade in Abuja, commemorates Nigeria's fallen military personnel.
