Air Force: CAS Joined Tinubu's Türkiye Trip to Boost Anti-Terror Air Capabilities

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified that Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, accompanied President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), on the recent high-level working visit to Türkiye to advance defence cooperation and enhance airpower in the fight against terrorism, banditry, insurgency, and asymmetric threats.

In a statement issued Thursday by NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the inclusion of the CAS underscores the Federal Government's resolve to strengthen Nigeria's defence posture, deepen international partnerships, and accelerate military modernisation amid evolving security challenges.

During the Ankara visit, President Tinubu held bilateral talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, culminating in the signing of nine Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across defence, trade, education, media, technology, and related sectors.

The engagements focused on translating shared interests into concrete outcomes, including military training, intelligence sharing, and access to advanced technologies.

The Minister of Defence highlighted the visit as reflecting President Tinubu's directive to decisively tackle security threats by equipping the Armed Forces with cutting-edge capabilities, partnerships, and tools.

The CAS's participation allowed for direct review of existing procurement arrangements, building on prior NAF acquisitions like Turkish-made drones and ATAK T129 attack helicopters and exploration of new opportunities to build a more agile, lethal, and technology-driven air force.

Ejodame emphasized that the strategic trip reinforces the NAF's commitment to enhanced operational effectiveness, national security, and smarter airpower delivery for safer communities.

The explanation addresses public interest in the CAS's involvement, amid broader discussions on Nigeria-Türkiye ties, which aim to boost bilateral trade to $5 billion and expand defence-industrial collaboration.
