David Adeleke, the Afrobeats star better known as Davido, has issued a rebuttal after an online paternity claim by a teenager.
The controversy began when an Instagram user, Anu Adeleke, posted an open letter pleading with the singer to take a DNA test.
The young lady, who said she was about to enter her teenage
years, claimed that not knowing her father had led to severe bullying and
mental anguish throughout her school life.
She stated she was seeking to establish her identity and respectfully requested the test from “Mr David Adeleke”.
“I am a bit late into the 15th day of the month but I’ve
been busy getting back to school after the holidays with family and friends,”
she wrote.
“This year I become a teenager. My mom and grandma has
always educated me on being a responsible teen. No drugs, alcohol, bad company
and bad behavior.
“Today I drafted a letter I wrote from the depth of my heart
not with help from my relatives. As I grow older I want to establish my
identity. I was bullied in school since I was 6-years-old and cried home daily.
“Other students laughed at me when I told them my father was
Mr David Adeleke. I went through a lot of mental anguish and visited a medical
professional to protect my mental health. It was a sad challenging time in my
life.
“This page was not online for 5 years as my mom never
updated this account since it was handed over to us. We went through a lot.
“Despite the challenges, I still excelled to the top of the
class and became the class prefect. We posted some of my report cards on this
page.
“Now that I’m in secondary school and still excelling in my
studies, I don’t talk about my family history anymore.
“However on that note as I transition into a young woman, I
am respectfully asking Mr David Adeleke Singer @davido for a DNA test to
establish my identity.
“This test is between my dad and I. It is something I want.
It is something that’s the right thing to do.”
Davido responded on his X account, denying the allegation
and revealing that not one, but five separate DNA tests had already been
conducted.
The ‘Unavailable’ hitmaker explained that three tests were
conducted at hospitals of his choosing, and two at hospitals chosen by the
child’s mother.
In a series of tweets, the Grammy-nominated singer claimed
all results returned negative, proving he is not the father.
“After 5 DNA test … she Dey crase .. her and her mom better
leave me the f**k alone and go find her
papa,” he wrote.
“Never met the b*tch… except when went For the DNA… very stupid behavior I will soon treat
their FK… 5 f**king hospitals just to be clear .. the mom needs to go to jail …
I don’t blame the poor girl ..
“Yes I chose 3 hospitals and they chose their own two
hospitals .. all came out Negative. this is the last time I’m speaking on this
nonsense.”
Davido concluded his statement with a legal threat, saying “When we strike make nobody beg us ooo ok”.
