Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and a prominent leader of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has expressed confidence that the growing collaboration between the ADC and the Obidient Movement could dislodge the APC from power in the 2027 general elections.
Odigie-Oyegun made the remarks on Monday in Benin City, Edo
State, during a formal reception for members of the Obidient Movement who
recently defected en masse to the ADC.
The defection follows the recent alignment of former Labour
Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, with the ADC.
Addressing the gathering, Odigie-Oyegun said the decision by
the Obidient Movement to join the ADC reflects a growing commitment among
Nigerians, especially young people, to pursue political change and national
renewal.
“The calibre and dedication of new members joining our party
strengthens my belief that a new Nigeria is within reach,” he said.
Recalling recent developments, he added: “A few days ago, I
witnessed the entry of Dele Momodu, a prominent figure, into the party. Today,
I see a large group of youths who are genuinely committed to nation-building.
Meeting the members of the Obidient Movement in this number convinces me that
the youth are ready to engage in meaningful political action.”
He described the mass defection as a deliberate and
strategic choice by the Obidient Movement to participate directly in the
struggle for political and social transformation.
“You have chosen to take up this struggle by joining the
ADC, and I am pleased. From the inception of this coalition, I have been
convinced that we are on the right path,” Odigie-Oyegun said.
He also argued that growing dissatisfaction with governance
at both the national and Edo State levels should motivate citizens to unite for
collective political action.
“Our mission is clear: we have a country to save. Through
the ADC, we can make a new Nigeria a reality,” he added.
