A former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Akin Oke, has urged party leaders and members to bury their differences and work together with a renewed sense of unity to reclaim the state in the 2027 governorship election.
Oke made the call on Monday while speaking at the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ Unity Rally held at the Ogbomoso Town Hall in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of the state.
He implored party stakeholders to embrace teamwork in order to dislodge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the next general election in the state.
APC leaders and members at the rally were drawn from the five local government areas that make up the Ogbomoso zone—Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, Oriire, Ogo-Oluwa and Surulere.
Recall that the current PDP administration led by Governor Seyi Makinde defeated the APC in the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections, relegating the party to the position of a major opposition in the state.
Oke said, “Eight years as a major opposition party is enough. We must work together to win in 2027. We must return to Government House, Agodi.
“I passionately appeal to the leaders and members of this great party in the state to bury their differences and work together with unity of purpose to reclaim Oyo in the 2027 governorship election.”
In his welcome address, a party chieftain from the zone and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority, Segun Odebunmi, said Ogbomoso remained a stronghold of the APC, adding that the party had begun intensive mobilisation to consolidate its dominance in the area.
He assured party leaders that Ogbomoso would deliver massive support for the APC, noting that stakeholders in the zone were solidly behind President Bola Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda.
In his opening remarks, the state Chairman of the APC, Olayide Abass, commended the resilience, loyalty and organisational strength of party stakeholders in the region, describing their commitment as critical to the party’s plan to reclaim the state in 2027.
Abass urged members to remain united and focused as the party works towards expanding its grassroots structures across the state.
In his keynote address, a former Senate Leader and the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Teslim Folarin, charged party members to take the message of the Renewed Hope Agenda to the grassroots.
He said, “Our mission here today is to show that we are ready to fully key into the Renewed Hope Agenda and demonstrate the spirit of love and togetherness prevailing in our great party.
“At the appropriate time, we will reach the nooks and crannies of the state to mobilise voters for the 2027 general elections, which will be a total victory for the APC.”
