Civil rights activist and former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has dismissed as doomed any political alliance involving ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari Ashiru, and opposition parties aimed at removing Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Sani expressed unwavering confidence in Governor Uba Sani’s re-election, attributing it to the administration’s unprecedented achievements in governance, security, infrastructure, and inclusive leadership.
He described opposition parties in the state as “existing only on paper,” lacking genuine grassroots support at the ward and community levels necessary to challenge the incumbent.
“There is no political plot, whether by individuals or parties, that can override the will of the people of Kaduna State,” Sani declared.
“The so-called alliance of ADC and PDP being attributed to El-Rufai and Ashiru is dead on arrival because it has no grassroots foundation.”
The former lawmaker highlighted Governor Uba Sani’s delivery of infrastructural projects across the three senatorial zones, covering both rural and urban areas as a historic first in Kaduna’s political history.
Sani identified three core pillars defining the governor’s leadership: unity, security, and development. He noted improved interfaith harmony between Muslims and Christians, relative peace compared to other North-West states plagued by banditry and insurgency, and an enabling environment for economic progress.
Among key initiatives cited were the proposed $200 million poultry project, the ongoing Kaduna Light Rail system, and multi-billion-naira skill acquisition programmes distributed across the state.
These efforts, Sani said, are already empowering youths and women, tackling unemployment, and addressing root causes of insecurity.
The ex-senator also commended renewed investments in healthcare delivery, education reform, and human capital development, insisting that residents “can see and feel the difference” under the current administration.
Shehu Sani urged political actors to prioritize constructive engagement and service delivery over what he termed “paper alliances and elite conspiracies.”
He predicted that Kaduna voters would reward tangible performance over propaganda in 2027, with the governor’s record ultimately prevailing.
The statement comes amid growing speculation about opposition realignments in Kaduna State ahead of the next general elections, including reported collaborations involving El-Rufai, a former influential figure in the state’s politics and Senator Ashiru of the PDP, potentially under platforms such as the ADC.
Governor Uba Sani, elected in 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has maintained a focus on inclusive governance and development projects since taking office.
