The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has described the 2026 national budget as a strategic tool crafted to consolidate and advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bold reform agenda.
Speaking through a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, the Minister noted that the past 31 months have involved tough but essential decisions aimed at ending decades of economic stagnation and laying the foundation for sustainable growth.
Idris highlighted emerging positive indicators, including expanding business activity, rising investor confidence, moderating inflation, and strengthening foreign reserves, as early evidence that the reforms are yielding results.
He stressed the critical role of trust and transparent communication in governance, reaffirming his ministry’s commitment to keeping Nigerians fully informed about government policies, challenges, and achievements.
The Minister pointed to several people-centred interventions in the budget, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative to lower transportation costs, and youth empowerment programmes such as the Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), the Jubilee Fellows Programme, and the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative.
He also emphasised ongoing measures to address food insecurity, including the recapitalisation of the Bank of Agriculture and increased support for mechanised farming.
On infrastructure, Idris listed flagship projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, and new railway developments, all designed to reduce logistics costs and boost national connectivity.
Regarding security, the Minister said the administration is intensifying efforts through enhanced recruitment, better equipment, and stronger international partnerships.
He cited the recent successful rescue of abducted students in Kebbi and Niger States as proof of improved operational effectiveness.
Concluding his remarks, Idris assured Nigerians that the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation will maintain openness, accountability, and consistency in communicating government actions, while extending wishes for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.
