A woman has been sentenced to four years in prison for blackmailing South Korean football superstar Son Heung-min.
The Seoul central district court handed the sentence to the defendant, identified by her surname Yang, who was accused of extorting 300 million won (approximately $200,000) from Son in 2024.
According to media reports, Yang sent Son a foetal ultrasound image, claiming she was pregnant with his child, and threatened to make the claim public unless he paid her. She allegedly spent the money on luxury and designer goods.
Earlier this year, Yang reportedly attempted to extort an additional 70 million won which prompted Son to report the matter to authorities, leading to her arrest and indictment.
