Wike Loyalists Inaugurate New PDP Caretaker Committee in Enugu

The factional National Working Committee (NWC) loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has inaugurated a new caretaker committee to lead the party's revival efforts.

The ceremony, held on Sunday in Enugu, drew a massive crowd of party faithful from all 17 local government areas, signaling strong grassroots support amid the PDP's recent setbacks.

It was presided over by the factional acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulraham Mohameed, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The inauguration comes just over a month after Governor Peter Mbah's high-profile defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on October 24, 2025, along with his entire executive council and the state's PDP leadership.

This mass exodus ended the PDP's unbroken 26-year dominance in Enugu since 1999, leaving the party in disarray and prompting urgent restructuring.

Appointed as chairman of the new caretaker committee is Vitus Okechi, the former chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area. Chukwunonye Okereke was named secretary.

The committee's mandate is to "recalibrate and rebuild" the PDP, emphasizing unity, loyalty, and the restoration of the party's political supremacy through efficient mobilization and grassroots reactivation across all 260 wards in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Okechi, addressing the enthusiastic crowd, declared unwavering confidence in the party's resurgence. "Enugu State is PDP, and PDP is Enugu State," he proclaimed.

"We appreciate those who refused to defect despite challenges. Your loyalty will be rewarded. Returning to the Lion Building in 2027 is fait accompli." He vowed an "efficient, smart, and relentless" mobilization strategy to rebuild structures from the ground up.

Okereke echoed the commitment to renewal, stating: "We are committed to a recalibrated PDP driven by honesty, appreciation of members, and proper administrative competence."

Stakeholders at the event were equally optimistic.

Dr. Okey Ozoani, the immediate past vice chairman, attributed the crisis to "an alien leadership disconnected from the PDP family" and hailed the 2027 polls as a "chance to restore our legacy."

Dr. Nnamdi Onyia urged members to stay steadfast, emphasizing that "loyalty and consistency remain the foundation of political reward."

Dignitaries including Prof. (Mrs.) Iloh, Celine Ugwu, Chizoba Ezeagor, Chief Ken Obiora, Chief Chukwujekwu Nebo, and Chief Obiora Ugwu conveyed goodwill messages, expressing faith in the new leadership and calling for immediate ward-level reactivation to gear up for future battles.
