Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said that the decision to withdraw plans for the proposed establishment of an independent Hisbah Command was taken in good faith and in the interest of peaceful coexistence in Kano State.
The proposed Hisbah Fisabilillahi, as the name implies, was
conceived by the former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to
absorb over 12,000 sacked government-owned Hisbah personnel in the state.
However, Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, the coordinator and brain
behind the project, said in a statement released on Monday that the decision to
withdraw the initiative was taken to allow peace to prevail.
According to the statement, the decision followed a
stakeholders’ meeting involving representatives from the 44 local government
areas of Kano State. The meeting was held at the Tinubu Campaign Office in
Kano.
The statement explained that Ganduje’s decision to step back
came after widespread public reactions and concerns over the proposed
establishment of an independent Hisbah outfit, describing it as “a proposal
made in good faith and without political motives.”
It added that key stakeholders intervened in the matter,
including the Kano State Government, the Department of State Services (DSS),
and Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje himself, with the aim of preserving peace and
stability in the state.
The stakeholders resolved to suspend the plan to allow the
Kano State Government to review the disengagement of some Hisbah personnel and
address the issue through dialogue and mutual understanding.
The statement further reaffirmed respect for the legally
established Kano State Hisbah Board and expressed commitment to supporting
constituted security agencies in maintaining law and order, as well as
safeguarding lives and property across Kano State and the country at large.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government had issued an Executive
Order banning the establishment of Ganduje’s independent Hisbah, with a stern
warning that it would crack down on any violators of the order.
