The marketing firm handling the sale of Nigeria’s presidential Boeing 737-700 Business Jet has withdrawn the aircraft’s listing.
The luxury aircraft, which was openly marketed by US-based brokerage JetHQ since July 2025, has been removed from the company’s listings.
When checked by journalists, the jet could no longer be found on the broker’s website.
In a brief email to The PUNCH, JetHQ’s Manager of Market Research, Laurie Barringer, confirmed the delisting and referred all further questions to the Nigerian government.
“Thank you for your email. We no longer have the listing on the Boeing. You will need to reach out to the Nigerian Government for information as to what has become of the aircraft,” Barringer wrote.
Attempts to get clarification from the Office of the National Security Adviser were unsuccessful.
The media aide, Ismail Garba, had promised to provide details but failed to respond days later.
The sudden withdrawal ends at least for now a highly publicised effort to offload the 20-year-old VIP jet, which was acquired in 2005 for $43 million during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo and has since been part of the Presidential Air Fleet.
The Tinubu government announced the planned sale in July 2025, citing the need to cut costs and rationalise the fleet amid widespread criticism of lavish spending on presidential aircraft.
At the time, the jet was described as undergoing partial refurbishment in Basel, Switzerland, including new first-class seats, cabin carpets, and major maintenance checks.
As recently as October 2025, JetHQ staff confirmed to journalists that the aircraft “remains available” for purchase.
Current market estimates value a well-maintained pre-owned 737 BBJ at around $56 million, depending on configuration and records.
Neither the Presidency nor the Nigerian Air Force has issued any official statement explaining why the jet has been pulled from the market or whether the plan to sell it has been abandoned.
