Aloy Ejimakor, lead counsel to the convicted leader of the
Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has called for his client to be
moved out of northern Nigeria, citing security concerns.
Ejimakor made the call on Friday via his X handle following
reports of a United States military strike on terrorist targets in Sokoto
State.
According to him, the development confirmed that Sokoto is
heavily affected by terrorist activities and was never a safe location to
detain Kanu.
He argued that the presence of terrorists in the area poses
a serious risk to Kanu’s safety and urged the authorities to relocate him to a
facility outside what he described as the “terrorist belt” in northern Nigeria.
Ejimakor stressed that relocating Kanu has become more
urgent in light of the recent security situation in the region.
He said: “The US military strike against terrorists in
Sokoto has finally confirmed that Sokoto is riddled with terrorists & thus
was never a safe place of custody for MAZI NNAMDI KANU. It’s now more urgent
that he be travelled outside the terrorist belt in Northern Nigeria.”
