Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully cleared several bandit hideouts in southern Taraba State, destroying two major camps and forcing the terrorists to flee toward neighbouring Benue State.
The joint clearance operation, conducted under Operation Peace Shield and Operation Zafin Wuta, targeted known bandit enclaves in the Takum Local Government Area, including Shiid village, Tor-Tser general area, Likam Mountain, Agia village, and Tyozua village.
Acting on credible intelligence about bandits using the rugged mountainous terrain as sanctuary, the troops launched the assault at approximately 02:07 hours on 7 December.
The forces divided into two teams: Team A established a blocking position at Tor-Tser, while Team B advanced directly on Shiid village near Likam Mountain.
Upon sighting the advancing troops, the bandits abandoned their positions and fled deeper into the mountains, leaving behind two well-established camps.
Military sources confirmed that the abandoned camps were thoroughly searched, cleared of any threats, and subsequently destroyed. One suspect was apprehended during the sweep.
The operation dealt a significant blow to the bandits, who had previously boasted that their mountain hideouts were inaccessible to security forces.
The military says the success has disrupted terrorist activities in the area and reassured local communities of ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in southern Taraba.
