Troops from the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation Enduring Peace, have arrested a suspected gunrunner and seized weapons and ammunition in Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
The operations, carried out on Thursday, December 18, 2025, are part of intensified efforts to remove illicit arms from circulation and guarantee a peaceful holiday season in the region, according to military sources.
In an early morning raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Gwender Village, Bokkos LGA, conducted jointly with Department of State Services (DSS) operatives troops acted on intelligence reports.
Although the suspects fled upon the forces' arrival, a thorough search uncovered one fabricated AK-47 rifle with magazine, one fabricated pistol, and several rounds of ammunition of varying calibres.
In a separate action, troops and a DSS Tactical Team set up a snap checkpoint at Mairana in Mangu LGA based on credible intelligence.
There, they intercepted and arrested a Fulani youth found in possession of two boxes containing 1,400 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The arrested suspect and all recovered items are now in custody pending further investigation.
Troops have stepped up follow-up operations to track down and apprehend other members of the suspected syndicate.
The military has reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining relentless pressure on criminal elements to restore and sustain peace and security across Plateau State and the broader Joint Operations Area.
