Security operatives have arrested seven suspected Fulani bandits during a routine stop-and-search operation along the busy Benin–Agbor Road in Edo State.
The suspects, all young men, were intercepted around 6:00 p.m. on Monday, 2 December 2025, moments after alighting from a truck.
A thorough search of their mobile phones recovered from them revealed multiple photographs of assault rifles, including AK-47 rifles, raising serious security concerns.
The suspects claimed they were travelling from Adamawa State. Security sources say intensive interrogation is ongoing to establish whether they are linked to recent banditry and kidnapping incidents in the axis, and to recover any cached weapons.
Authorities have called on residents and motorists plying the route to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or movements to the nearest security formation.
