Tinubu Inaugurates APC Panel to Resolve Internal Conflicts Ahead of 2027 Elections

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated a high-powered Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress (APC), aimed at fostering unity, resolving lingering disputes, and strengthening the ruling party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration took place in Lagos, with Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni appointed as Chairman and former APC National Legal Adviser, Dr. Muiz Banire, as Member/Secretary.

Other members of the committee include prominent party figures such as:Senator Adamu Aliero

Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara, Chairman of Nigeria Governors' Forum)

Governor Hope Uzodimma (Imo, Chairman of Progressive Governors' Forum)

Governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta)

Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers)

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari

Speaking at the event, Chairman Mai Mala Buni thanked President Tinubu and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee, pledging to discharge its mandate with dedication and impartiality.

"We will engage in broad consultations to develop a comprehensive, inclusive strategy that ensures every member, especially aggrieved parties, feels a sense of belonging," Buni said.

He emphasised proactive conflict resolution and urged members to prioritise the party's overall interest over personal sentiments.

The committee's formation follows President Tinubu's remarks at the APC's 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on December 19 in Abuja, where he stressed the importance of internal cohesion, tolerance, and accommodation of diverse opinions to sustain the party's progressive ideals.

"We must be resolute that this democracy must not fail. We are bigger, larger, and taller but we must also be accommodating and tolerant," the President had said.

Analysts view the move as a strategic effort to address factional tensions, heal rifts from recent primaries and governorship elections, and consolidate the APC's position as Nigeria's dominant political force heading into the next electoral cycle.
