Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of abdicating leadership and showing undue subservience to foreign powers.
In a strongly worded post on X on Friday, Abdullahi stated: "President Tinubu has outsourced his most important constitutional responsibility, effectively taking a back seat in a vehicle that he is constitutionally assigned to drive."
The opposition spokesperson went further, questioning the president's autonomy: "When the President of Nigeria appears compelled to report himself to another head of state, even tagging a foreign President in a Christmas Day message, Nigerians are entitled to ask who is truly in charge of our country?"
Abdullahi's remarks were triggered by President Tinubu's official Christmas message posted on December 25, in which he greeted Nigerian Christians and the global Christian community while pledging continued protection of religious freedom.
The message included a tag to US President Donald Trump, alongside several domestic accounts.
The gesture has ignited debate at a time of intensified Nigeria-US collaboration on security matters, including recent coordinated airstrikes against Islamic State affiliates in northwest Nigeria.
While supporters of the administration see the reference to Trump as routine diplomatic engagement, critics like Abdullahi view it as symptomatic of weakened national leadership and over-reliance on external influence.
The former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Abdullahi has emerged as one of the more vocal opposition figures since joining the ADC.
