Armed terrorists on Monday evening kidnapped an unspecified number of passengers after blocking the Wawa–Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State for nearly three hours.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that the attack started around 4 p.m. m. and continued unchallenged until about 7 p.m.According to residents, the gunmen, who arrived on motorcycles in groups of three per bike, ambushed two fully loaded passenger vehicles heading to Gupanti and Luma communities and marched all occupants into the bush.
A third vehicle travelling towards Papiri was shot at, but the driver escaped with the passengers.
“They stopped two buses completely and took everyone away. One of the victims is Mallam Umaru from Luma-Sanke,” a source said.
The terrorists reportedly split into three squads, with some operating around Kale, others moving toward Konkoje and the Wawa–Kaiama axis, while the third group struck the Wawa–Luma stretch.
As of the time of filing this report, the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, could not be reached for comment.
The latest incident adds to the growing list of abductions along Niger State highways, particularly in Borgu, Rafi, and Shiroro local government areas, where bandits have made several roads almost impassable.
