Stray Bullet from NDLEA Raid Injures 22-Year-Old in Yobe Market

A 22-year-old youth, Abubakar Hassan, is fighting for his life after being hit by a stray bullet fired by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during a raid in Ngurore Market, Yola North LGA, Yobe State.

Eyewitnesses told security correspondent Zagazola Makama that on Tuesday, 10 December 2025, around 10:00 a.m., NDLEA officers stormed a known ghetto area inside the bustling market and began shooting indiscriminately while pursuing suspected drug peddlers.

One of the bullets struck Abubakar Hassan, a resident of nearby Jambutu community, in the stomach and right leg.

He collapsed immediately and was rushed to Banene Hospital in Ngurore, where medical sources say he is responding to treatment but remains in serious condition.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ngurore quickly visited the scene to assess the situation and calm rising tensions.

Angry residents have condemned the use of live ammunition in a crowded public market, calling it reckless and dangerous.

“They turned the market into a war zone over ordinary hemp smokers. What if more people had died?” one trader asked.

As of the time of this report, the NDLEA has not issued any official statement regarding the incident or the condition of the injured youth.

The shooting has reignited calls for stricter rules of engagement and better training for security agencies conducting operations in civilian-populated areas.
