SON, BPP Sign MoU to Enforce “Nigeria First” Policy in Public Procurement

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) have formalised a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at prioritising Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) and locally made products in all federal government procurement activities, in line with the Federal Government’s “Nigeria First” policy.

The MoU was signed at the BPP headquarters in Abuja by the Director-General of BPP, Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, FCILT, ACFE, and the Director-General of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, ACTI, FCA, FMSN.

Under the agreement, both agencies will collaborate to ensure that all goods, works, and services procured by the government meet approved Nigerian Industrial Standards.

The partnership also promotes greater adoption of local content and certified Made-in-Nigeria products in public contracts.

A joint statement issued by Talatu Ethan, Director of Corporate Affairs at SON, and Zira Zakka Nagga, Head of Press and Public Relations at BPP, emphasised that the MoU reinforces transparency, competitiveness, and value-for-money in public spending while driving economic patriotism through the preferential use of quality Nigerian goods and services.

The collaboration is expected to enhance the quality and durability of government projects, boost local industries, and support the broader objectives of the Nigeria First initiative.
