Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, and his wife, Layal, have been installed with chieftaincy titles in Lagos state.
The ceremony follows closely on the heels of a similar royal
honour conferred upon the couple in Oyo just days prior.
Seyi was installed as the Okanlòmo of Eyọ Ọba Alakẹtẹ Pupa,
Laba Ẹkun, while Layal received a complementary title during a ceremony held in
Lagos.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, announced the
installation in a post on Instagram on Friday.
Sanwo-Olu, who shared photos from the ceremony, described
the recognition as a reflection of service, character, and commitment to Lagos’
culture and people.
“I warmly congratulate Barrister Oluwaseyi Tinubu on his
installation as the Okanlòmo of Eyọ Ọba Alakẹtẹ Pupa, Laba Ẹkun,” he wrote.
“This honour reflects service, character, and commitment to
our culture and people. I wish him continued strength and clarity as he carries
the responsibilities and expectations that come with this new role.”
The Lagos ceremony took place barely five days after the
couple were conferred with chieftaincy titles by Abimbola Owoade, the Alaafin
of Oyo.
On December 21, Seyi and Layal were installed as the
Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Yeye Okanlomo of Yorubaland respectively, at a
colourful event held at the Alaafin’s palace in Oyo.
At the ceremony, the Alaafin described Seyi as a young
leader committed to youth empowerment, social development, and the promotion of
Yoruba values.
Responding to the honour, the president’s son expressed
gratitude to the monarch.
“I accept this title with humility and a deep sense of
responsibility to serve our people and promote peace and progress across
Yorubaland,” Seyi said.
He pledged continued support for initiatives focused on youth development, unity, and the preservation of Yoruba culture.
