Senate Confirms Tinubu's Ambassadorial Nominees

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed all career and non-career ambassadorial nominees forwarded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the exception of the nominee from Yobe State, former Senator Adamu Garba Talba, who passed away in July 2025.

The mass confirmation brings to a close a process that began with the submission of dozens of names earlier this month, aimed at filling critical diplomatic vacancies that have persisted for over two years. The approved nominees, including high-profile political appointees and seasoned career diplomats, are expected to be deployed to various missions abroad to advance Nigeria's foreign policy interests.

The late Senator Talba's name had appeared on the original list despite his death on July 14, 2025, prompting earlier criticism over perceived lapses in the nomination process. During plenary, the Senate effectively bypassed the deceased nominee, confirming the remaining qualified individuals without controversy.

Prior to confirmation, the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs conducted screenings, during which concerns about federal character compliance were raised but ultimately did not derail the approvals. Senate President Godswill Akpabio oversaw the session, emphasizing the importance of robust diplomatic representation.

The confirmed ambassadors are poised to strengthen bilateral ties and promote Nigeria's global standing, as the administration seeks to revitalize its international engagements.
