The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointments of three non-career ambassadors nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marking the first such confirmations in nearly two years following the recall of all envoys in 2023.
The confirmed ambassadors-designate are:Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun State), a retired Colonel and former Director General of the State Security Service;
Aminu Muhammad Dalhatu (Jigawa State), a seasoned diplomat with prior postings including Ambassador to the Republic of Korea;
Emmanuel Ayodele Oke (Oyo State), a former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency with experience in multilateral diplomacy.
These nominations, initially forwarded to the Senate in November 2025, are expected to fill key diplomatic posts in strategic countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, and France, with specific assignments to be announced post-confirmation.
The confirmation highlights President Tinubu's efforts to strengthen Nigeria's diplomatic presence abroad amid ongoing appointments of additional career and non-career ambassadors.
