In a successful operation, a joint team from the Edo State Police Command, Nigerian Army personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters has rescued 11 passengers who were previously abducted along the Benin–Akure highway near Obarenren village in Ovia North East Local Government Area.
The intensive bush-combing exercise, launched following a distress call, led to the safe recovery of the 11 victims on Sunday, with no reported injuries among those freed.
Edo State Police spokesperson ASP Eno Ikoedem confirmed the rescue, stating: “On Sunday, 11 of the kidnapped passengers were successfully rescued, while seven others are still in the custody of their abductors. The police are doing everything possible within their capacity to secure the release of the remaining victims.”
He urged the public to remain calm and cooperative with security agencies, adding that authorities are optimistic the remaining seven hostages will be freed unharmed.Operations continue in the area to locate and rescue the outstanding victims, amid ongoing efforts to combat highway kidnappings in the region.
