Running Against Tinubu in 2027 Futile, elections not Won on Social Media - Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has warned opposition parties that contesting against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election would amount to a futile or "suicidal" endeavor, emphasizing that electoral victories are not achieved through social media campaigns.

Speaking at the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on Friday, Shettima asserted that only someone "hell-bent on a suicidal path or an outright imposter" would dare challenge Tinubu, given the president's vast political experience and leadership credentials.

"Elections are not won by noise or nostalgia," Shettima stated. "Elections are not conducted on Facebook or Twitter. They are won by coalitions, credibility, and conviction."

He highlighted Tinubu's track record as a key advantage for the ruling party, declaring that the APC approaches 2027 not as a gamble but as a responsibility, with the president's experience serving as a "shield."

While acknowledging democratic rights to contest, Shettima expressed strong confidence in Tinubu's re-election prospects, underscoring the importance of strategic alliances and grassroots mobilization over online rhetoric.

The remarks come as early political positioning intensifies ahead of the 2027 polls, with the APC solidifying its internal unity under Tinubu's leadership.
