President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the prestigious Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) 2025 on Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, in recognition of his outstanding reforms in governance and security.
The award was formally presented on Sunday night during a well-attended ceremony at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, received the honour on behalf of President Tinubu.
Organised by The Best Strategic Media (TBS) in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the award celebrates exemplary leadership and tangible results in public service.
In a statement released by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Gov. Lawal was specifically recognised for transformative initiatives across key sectors, including sweeping reforms in the civil service, massive investments in education and healthcare, and bold steps to restore security in one of Nigeria’s most challenged states.
Among the achievements highlighted by the organisers:
Clearance of over ₦15 billion in gratuity arrears spanning 13 years for retired civil servants
Raising the state minimum wage from ₦7,000 to ₦70,000 – a tenfold increase
Introduction of a 13th-month salary and additional welfare packages for workers
Comprehensive urban renewal projects and the reconstruction or renovation of over 500 public schools
Full upgrade and equipping of all general hospitals across the state
On the security front, the award citation praised Gov. Lawal’s establishment of the Community Protection Guards (CPG), provision of hundreds of operational vehicles and fuel logistics for security forces, acquisition of modern equipment, and sustained moral and material support to the military and police.
Reacting to the honour, the governor’s media aide said the national recognition will further motivate His Excellency to accelerate the “Rescue and Rebuild Zamfara” agenda.
The NEAPS award adds to a growing list of accolades for Gov. Dauda Lawal since he assumed office in May 2023, underscoring his administration’s reputation as one of the most worker-friendly and reform-driven state governments in Nigeria.
