Police Arrests 22 Suspects in Nationwide Raids, Seize Arms, Vehicles

The Nigeria Police Force's Special Tactical Squad (STS) has achieved significant victories in a wave of intelligence-led operations across multiple states, resulting in the arrest of 22 suspects involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling, vehicle theft, economic sabotage, police impersonation, and drug trafficking.

In a detailed statement, police authorities reported the recovery of six firearms, including one LAR rifle, one pump-action gun, one AK-47 rifle, one AK-49 rifle, one sub-machine gun, and assorted ammunition as well as numerous other items such as stolen vehicles, motorcycles, large quantities of suspected illicit drugs (including cannabis), and additional incriminating evidence.

A key operation took place along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, where operatives intercepted a J5 vehicle loaded with 13 brand-new motorcycles, weapons, and other suspicious materials.

This led to the arrest of 35-year-old Luke Ifeanyi, suspected of armed robbery and economic sabotage.

In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the squad rearrested Ayo Abiodun, an escapee from the Kuje Custodial Centre, accused of robbing a serving Nigerian Army officer.

Another suspect, 40-year-old Yusuf Shehu, was apprehended for impersonating a police officer after a stolen tricycle and fake police uniform were recovered from him.

Additional arrests occurred in states including Edo (four suspects linked to unlawful firearm possession and community attacks), Lagos and Ogun (two involved in a car-snatching syndicate), and Nasarawa (12 suspects tied to banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling).

Praising the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun emphasized the Force's dedication to safeguarding citizens, dismantling criminal networks, and maintaining national security.

He called on the public to continue sharing timely and reliable information to bolster police efforts in combating crime. Investigations are ongoing, with suspects set to face prosecution.
