Police Arrest 14 Suspected Traffic Robbers on Lekki–Epe Expressway

Lagos State Police have arrested 14 suspected traffic robbers along the notorious Lekki-Epe Expressway in the past two weeks, responding to a surge in complaints from motorists about thefts during heavy gridlock.

Operatives from the Elemoro Tactical Squad made the arrests at various points on the busy route.

Command spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi announced this on Tuesday, highlighting the operation's success in tackling crimes that exploit traffic congestion.

“These arrests demonstrate our unwavering commitment to enhancing security and safeguarding road users along this corridor,” Adebisi stated. She urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious activity, adding: “See something, say something.”

The crackdown follows growing outrage over brazen thefts of vehicle parts, such as side mirrors and windshield covers, while drivers are stuck in traffic.

Criminals often pose as hawkers or beggars to approach vehicles undetected. The issue gained widespread attention after tech influencer Fisayo Fosudo shared his frustration on social media, revealing it was the fourth time his car had been targeted.

In his latest incident, thieves violently removed his entire windshield cover. His post prompted an outpouring of similar stories from other drivers.

One user warned that owners of Lexus RX 350 models (2017–2022) are particularly vulnerable at night, with side mirrors costing over ₦100,000 each being high-demand items on the black market.

Police have pledged to maintain intensified patrols and surveillance along the Lekki-Epe axis to deter further incidents and rebuild public confidence. Investigations into the arrested suspects are ongoing.
