The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has proclaimed a "New Era of Unity" for the party, signaling an end to internal conflicts and a renewed focus on reconciliation.
In a recent meeting, the BoT, described as the party's "conscience," resolved to move past discord and strengthen the party's foundation.
BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara praised the successful National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15-16, 2025, highlighting it as proof of the PDP's commitment to internal democracy and transparency.
Senator Wabara extended the BoT's full support to the National Working Committee (NWC) led by National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
He noted early signs of progress under the new leadership, including efforts to reposition the party, bolster structures, and rebuild confidence among members nationwide.
"These are giant strides that give hope not just to Party members, but to millions of Nigerians who look to the PDP as a credible alternative," Wabara said.Emphasizing healing, he added: "As we celebrate progress, we must also embrace unity. This is the moment that calls for reconciliation and healing."
In response, Chairman Turaki thanked the BoT for its endorsement and participation in the convention. Reflecting on past challenges, he declared: "We have had a lot of ups and downs... Now, it is time for peace. One of the cardinal principles of our leadership is reconciliation."
Turaki urged all members, supporters, and stakeholders to unite, stating: "We believe there is no dispute, no disagreement, and no misunderstanding that is irreconcilable, provided there is a common objective and common will."
The meeting drew prominent BoT members, including former Minister of Information Professor Jerry Gana, former Kaduna Governor Senator Ahmed Muhammed Makarfi, and former Enugu Governor Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, among others.
The declarations come as the PDP seeks to consolidate following its recent convention and position itself strongly ahead of future elections.
